Before we look at the basics of website development, let's review a few topics. First, what is the web?

Server software is created to 'serve' web pages and web sites. This software waits for people (web browsers) to request or ask for a particular web site page. When the browser requests a page, the server sends it out over the network back to the requesting browser.
So, how do you find a web site? From your perspective, you start by typing in the website's address, or URL, which is the domain name, and perhaps that specific page 'file name,' like 'about.html'. You might also find the page through a web search (like Google.com).
